Gardening has always been healing for me.
I grew up surrounded by gardens — and it inspired me to always bring nature with me, no matter where I went.
As a kid, I grew up on a corn farm. I tended to the field as best I could, but my usual chores included taking care of our gardens.
By the age of 10 I was a professional weed killer and the designated waterer. I loved watching my plants grow! I find it soothing to know you’re helping something flourish. Watching a seed bloom takes more than just weeding and water…. There’s a bit of magic to it.
Growing up, my favorite part was always harvesting the corn.
And today that’s still true — I love my daily harvest. I walk through my garden and pick all the produce I need for the day’s cooking.
The biggest transition from moving to the city was the lack of space and light for gardens. There just wasn’t an option to grow plants on my balcony and I couldn’t lose an entire room for plants!
Instead of giving up, I went on a journey.
I needed gardening in my life and I wasn’t going to let this roadblock stop me.
And that’s when I came across hydroponics…
